Fresh from teacher training college, Tom Langston finds a job at a seemingly calm and pleasant school in southwest England. Soon enough, however, he discovers that the pupils within its walls have lost all respect for authority and are running riot in classrooms--verbally and physically abusing teachers, and each other. A few weeks into term, a body is found at the bottom of a nearby crevice, mutilated almost beyond recognition. The police go into the school to question pupils, and Tom volunteers some information that he thinks might help. There is something strange, unnatural, about his behaviour during the interview and he immediately becomes a suspect. He's seen coming out of the room. That's when the reprisals begin….
