Pam Robinson no longer has direction of the National Response Teams. Jim Snyder, the new Assistant Director for the Explosives and Arson Division now assumes that role. Even so, Robinson still conducts the investigation of a post office blast in New Hampshire, an event for which The Alliance claims responsibility. FBI Special Agent Kent Mertens, based on intelligence from good sources, leads a raid against The Alliance that costs the lives of four federal officers. Initially ostracized, Mertens is eventually cleared of any wrongdoing and reconnects with Pam, but a horrific traffic accident threatens their renewed romantic relationship.
