LUCK BE A LADY...
It's New Year's Day 1981 in Las Vegas, and already the future looks grim for New York writer Marti Hirsch and her musician boyfriend Jerry Barlow. An urgent phone call rattles through their cluttered mobile home and informs the exhausted couple that Donny Brooks, an obnoxious lounge singer whom Jerry accompanies, has been arrested for the murder of the casino owner who employs them.

Overlooking Donny's basic repugnance, Marti begins an unofficial investigation into the murder and amid the Strip's tawdry glamour she learns the victim, an imposing yet mysterious turban-wearing lady, had a few too many enemies and far fewer friends. From a college jock with a secret to a peppy cheerleader to a hostile pit boss to a zaftig cocktail waitress with an intimate personal problem, Marti interrogates a cross section of Vegas humanity--rolling the dice with her own life.
