When Peggy Wheaton first met Bill Tappan she thought he was an old woman. Later when she met him again, he had a child with him. He kept her off balance in other ways as well, and she didn't really like him, until one day she awakened and was in love with him.

She was a small town girl. He was from a city and he was both sophisticated and a lawyer. They didn't have much in common but it was enough. "It" was called Michael Harland Tappan.

Perhaps love wasn't supposed to come easily to a woman of twenty one, it surely didn't, but it came, and she revelled in it as she went through the entire gamut of emotions and discovered that a woman in love is unlike any other creature on earth.
