For what misguided reason does Lucy Bowden pretend to be somebody else? Because she is convinced that the brilliant Doctor Justin Grant will not approve of the picture she gives to the world. But pretense is not good enough, for he is bound to find out and he places such importance on honesty.

For years Lucy has been pampered, photographed, treated as if she were public property, but, when Justin rescues her from an impending Dartmoor storm and takes her with him to the isolated farmhouse where he works, she is no longer prepared to be the person the media love to malign.
