Spurned by the Groom's Mother

Rosie Wilder works like a servant for her parents and five siblings. She overhears talk of Mail Order Brides and jumps at the chance to escape. She corresponds with a man from Lawton City, Nebraska: Robert Geller. He proposes, and she flees west to marry him immediately. Robert confesses that his mother will be living with them. Rosie isn't worried, until she meets her. The woman is rude, cold, and ruthless in her treatment of Rosie. Moreover, Robert is distant and doesn't give Rosie the support she needs. When Robert's not home, a freak storm occurs. Robert's mother gets injured, and it's Rosie's fault. When Robert finally returns, Rosie dreads what his mother will tell him.
