About This Book

Into the small English village of Polden comes Mr. Donner and his beautiful daughter Coolie from Arizona, USA. Mr. Donner wants to learn something of the past of a former resident of Polden who, emigrating to America and dying in Mr. Donner's home town, left a large sum of money to the hospital there. Surprisingly little information is given to the Donners, although they soon win the hearts of the residents of Polden. Claire has to decide whether she truly loves Stephen, her childhood sweetheart, or if her love for him is just a friendship and nothing more.

Claire worked for two happy years on Stephen's Buckinghamshire farm, content that their easy comradeship would eventually ripen into something more... She was the girl that took too much for granted.

The dead Jeffry Hansard had not acted in a way to endear him to his nearest and dearest... He was the deceased benefactor of mysterious character.

Coolie was lovely and charming and a threat to Claire's happiness. Mr. Donner was anxious to gather details of Jeffry Hansard... They were the Americans, father and daughter.

And the man who loved his farm but was destined to leave it, who was dependable and amusing, kind but determined... That was Stephen, whom two girls loved.
