About This Book

PreS-Gr 1--Spot Counts From 1 - 10 is really one long sentence in which Spot counts many barnyard animals. Spot Looks at Opposites is the best of the three because of its clear presentation of the concept. The opposites are printed in large letters at the top of each double-page spread, and the illustrations clearly show the relationship, i.e., Spot's tail wags as he goes into the doghouse--he holds a bone in his mouth as he comes out. A sentence at the bottom of each page uses the key words: ``Spot goes in the doghouse. He brings out a bone.'' In Spot Looks at the Weather , double-page spreads show humorous colorful drawings of important words related to the weather: wind, rain, clouds, rainbow, etc. Youngsters will smile when they see Spot in shocking pink sunglasses sipping a cold drink in the sun. As in Opposites , the word illustrated is printed alone and in a sentence. The illustrations in all three books are bright and clear. These newest offerings about Spot will be welcomed by preschoolers learning these concepts, beginning readers, and librarians planning story hours. --Mary Ann Bursk, Bucks County Free Library, Levittown, PA
