The reader becomes emotionally committed within the first ten pages. Bart Stearman is committed to meeting his Maker. Melba Kirsham is committed to saving the life of her infant son, Arnold. Circumstance and serendipity thrust both of them into the middle of a medical experiment that will affect not only Bart's soul but the souls of others. Fighting against odds that suggest he cannot succeed, Bart struggles to save the life and soul of Arnold Kirsham, who is an unwitting player in the conflict.
