Meridith Stevens, a young academic, isin Yellowstone National Park searching forher wayward niece, a seasonal employee.After she observes an attach casepassed from one man to another whileat Old Faithful she thinks nothing of it,but shortly thereafter her car is forcedoff the road. Rescued from the car crashby Jake Crockett a photo-journalist in thepark doing an article for his magazine,Meri accepts transportation from Jaketo where her niece is working. Meri andJake develop a contentious relationship,among other things, regarding wolvesand grizzlies on the Endangered SpeciesList and become entangled, along withMeris niece, in drugs among seasonalworkers in the park. Along the way, Meriis stalked by an unknown person andshe and her niece confront professionaland personal crossroads in each oftheir lives.
