John Slocum didn't see any harm in helping a couple of greenhorns settle in the West. After all, he didn't really have anything better to do. And helping Harvey and Lawrence claim their ranch was better than starving to death in the Texas desert!

But staking the claim wasn't as easy as it sounded. The ranch was at the center of a long and bitter range war—and Slocum was caught in the middle of it faster than he could clear leather.
