About This Book

The U.S. spacecraft Skyprobe IV is hurtling in orbit nine hundred miles from Earth to investigate beyond the moon, when Commander Shaw hears of a threat, putting the spacemen's lives at danger. It is suddenly up to him to retain the safety of the ship and its men, along with the prestige of the U.S.

Shaw is soon made aware that this means that the stability of world peace is jeopardized...

In order to contain this threat, Shaw travels worldwide against an increasing amount of world tension. As Skyprobe IV passes on its orbit, only hours from splashdown it is recognised that any act of interference must result in a global atomic war...

Philip McCutchan manages to skillfully maintain a high level of suspense and tension as he grips the reader throughout the entirety of the novel. Skyprobe is perfect for any McCutchan fan, keeping true to his style of thrilling intrigue and suspense.

Praise for Skyprobe

"McCutchan holds his reader through the skillful use of mystery and suspense …Skyprobe is richly embellished with violence, sadism and sex." Hartford Courant

"The most frenetic of the Commander Shaw series to date (and that's saying a lot), this succeeds on sheer energy … Shaw is ‘the man on the spot' moving heaven and earth to demagnetize the Mayurov Beam. A really surprise ending." Kirkus Reviews

Philip McCutchan (1920-1996) grew up in the naval atmosphere of Portsmouth Dockyard and developed a lifetime's interest in the sea. Military history was an early interest resulting in several fiction books, from amongst his large output, about the British Army and its campaigns, especially in the last 150 years.
