Seven hundred years ago, a city walled itself off from the rest of earth's inhabitants. Decades after first containment, this city named Nieuwe Aarde expanded upward, becoming a world unto itself. The population of this city-world has boomed to over eighty million people, but the history of why the world was built and what lies in the exo-world has been lost. This world is Nick's world.

What happens when a subset of the human race splinters from the rest of us, sealing themselves off for over one hundred and twenty generations? Who thrives? Who suffers? With such limited space and resources, how is peace maintained? Can it be maintained? Why do the people of higher Grounds live in luxury compared to the packed masses of the lower Grounds?
The next five books (three written and two to come) in the Sky series tell the story of Nicholas Burke, a journalist from Ground 134. His world is changing, both inside and outside the walls of N. Aarde. Detected by only a few people, the air in the exo-world is cooling. Water levels are receding, uncovering artifacts of a civilization ruined hundreds of years ago. And perhaps most troubling of all, centuries of isolation is about to come to an end. One whispered word, spoken through trembling lips, alerts the new chairmen of the World Defense Committee: Contact!
