The train stopped at Palmville, and Sarah Ida had a sudden thought. What if she didn't get off?

Sarah Ida is unhappy about spending the summer at Aunt Claudia's in Palmville. She's been sent away because her parents can't cope with her. Then Aunt Claudia refuses to give her an allowance, and Sarah Ida is furious. So she finds a job in a grimy shoeshine stand, the only place that will hire a girl her age. To her surprise, her aunt doesn't object. And that is only the first of many surprises that the summer holds for her.
