Shalina Blue

Shalina Blue is a thirteen-year-old girl who comes from a poor sharecropping farm family. Her parents married her off to a man who beat, raped, and finally impregnated her. When Shalina has a miscarriage, Mrs. Barnswelt, a local school teacher, takes her into her home. Shortly afterward, the local sheriff becomes involved with her ex in-laws, because they refuse to accept the fact that she and their son Bo are no longer married, as their marriage had been annulled. Many things surface that the sheriff finds unacceptable! The sheriff becomes suspicious when bodies begin to disappear that should have had a proper burial. He confides in the director of the funeral home, who tells the sheriff that the people in question had not been seen by him.
