Dressing to go with her fiance, Bryan Sedgwick, to a dance in their honor, Reda could not imagine why she should have a premonition of disaster. Even a call from Bryan's grandfather, asking her to come see him at once, hardly seems to justify her fears. But the discovery of the old man dead in the library of his home, Shadow Acres, turned fear into horror and premonition into panic. The arrival on the scene of Bryan's cousin, with whom Reda had once been desperately in love and whom she had not seen since his departure to South America two years ago, created romantic complications and provided one more suspect.
