Late 50s, rural East Texas. Stealing Cuz's Ford Fairlane, four white teenagers, hormone and testosterone levels rising by the day, venture unexpectedly into a neighboring yet alien world after embarking on what was supposed to be an ordinary weekend beer run. Their guide in this place is Queer Harold, an elderly black gentleman whose name carries the weight of not-a-little infamy. With his patience, good humor, and grace, Queer Harold initiates the boys to a depth of humanness they've not previously known, while Mouth steps beyond his small-town boundaries by starting a relationship with Harold's beautiful friend, Sherry.
