Carole is sixty-one, unfulfilled, dowdy and lonely. Paula, the friend she lived with, has died. Can she make a new life for herself?

A chance encounter with an old school friend leads her to join the U3A – University of the Third Age. Gradually she discovers that life still has lots to offer – new skills, a love affair and interesting new friends.

However, both Paula and Carole had secrets which they kept hidden for the whole of their time together and never shared even with each other. Who is Sam 73? Why has he or she been receiving money from their joint bank account every month?
