Second Best Wife

All her life Georgina had been eclipsed by the sunny disposition and luminous beauty of her sister, Jennifer. While she was ignored, men flocked to Jennifer's side in droves. Somehow it never bothered Georgina until one too many suitors turned her capricious sibling's head, causing her to break her engagement to the autocratic William Ayres. For since Jennifer refused to deal with anything unpleasant, it fell to Georgina to inform him.

Everything would have been fine, had not William blamed her for his rejection and insisted that she come to Sri Lanka with him in Jennifer's place. William needed a wife for reasons of his own, and even if she was second best, Georgina would have to do!

"I'll simply take you in her place."

Georgina's mouth fell open. "What on earth do you mean?"

"I mean," William replied patiently, "that you're a member of the female sex and that's all I need to come with me to the Far East as my wife."

"You're mad!" she gasped in utter disbelief.

But, unfortunately, William was not mad -- only very determined. Rejected at the last moment by Georgina's somewhat capricious sister, he meant every single word!
