      About This Book

      Death bullied a family from the fjords of Norway to the shores of a new country called America. The wintry terrain was gladly forsaken and a foreign vessel, at the conclusion of the Civil War, transported the strangers to the shores of New York City. There, tragedy struck at the hands of a Southern sympathizer. A son's body was never found, causing the family to strike out for the land of the Bad Axe and a valley called Purdy.
