When Inquisitor Grynner investigates a derelict Imperial trading vessel adrift in the Halo Stars, he and his operatives discover everyone aboard is dead, apparently killed by powerful psykers. As the vessel hails from the Calixis sector, he contacts his colleague Inquisitor Carolus, who runs a network of agents in that area.

But there is no such thing as a straightforward Inquisition investigation, and pretty soon Inquisitor Carolus and his team find themselves up to their necks in trouble.
