An unfulfilled relationship with a young medical student has left its mark on Ellie Smythe, a youthful woman of great sensitivity and beauty. She now dislikes men in general, and doctors in particular. But while vacationing on the romantic island of Elba, Ellie falls deeply in love with David, an older man-of-the-world who, unknown to her, is a famous medical consultant. Ellie is devastated when she realizes that David intends to let the relationship end with the vacation.
