Sunny Prescott trades in her life as a disgruntled schoolteacher and becomes a companion for a delightfully eccentric woman. All she wants is to lay low and recover from scandal, in a permanent home, with no drama.

Sam has climbed as high as he can go in his college professor job. Dissatisfied as youngest professor to reach tenure, he is relieved that thanks to a random comment by Gram's new companion, he has to take a year's sabbatical to paint Gram's huge Victorian home.

Sunny and Sam hit it off from the start. Sunny makes Sam laugh, and Sam makes Sunny feel secure. Just as a misunderstanding makes Sunny question Sam's character, Sunny's past catches up with her. Will Sam rally and make things right before Sunny's gone for good?
