Sandra Swift and the Land Speed Record

The 3rd adventure in this new series. Swift Enterprises' commercial nuclear power program is under attack by several corporate interests. In response, Phyllis Newton suggests a daring public relations project: an attempt at the land speed record using a car powered by an Enterprises portable nuclear reactor. Tom Swift Jr. immediately begins work designing a vehicle capable of traveling more than two thousand miles an hour. And, as before, Sandra Swift manages to find herself in the thick of things. Among them is competition for the land speed record by a foreign industrial firm overseen by a reclusive mastermind. Sandy also faces danger from a mysterious invisible force that kills with electricity, as well as a woman with a shady past who seems to possess unusual powers. All of this eventually brings Sandy and her friends to a supersonic showdown on a Nevada desert; a showdown which could end in death at the very least… and perhaps global annihilation at the worst.
