About This Book

J. S. Fletcher was an English newspaperman and author of more than 200 fiction and non-fiction books. Yet, he was not known to the American reader until 1926 when Editor Edmund Brown discovered Fletcher and introduced him to America.
The son of a clergyman, Fletcher was a student of law—a background that was helpful in all of his writings, especially in stories dealing with criminology, such as Safe Number Sixty-Nine.
What makes Fletcher a great writer is his ability to make English, as was spoken in England around 1900, come alive, through characters that are also very real and believable.
Joseph Smith Fletcher deserves a revival, and hopefully this will happen with the re-publication, in E-book format, of Edmund Brown's 1926 edition re-presented herewith.
