Leeza Gale treasures her life as an only child; she and her divorced mother are like sisters. Then her mother remarries and has twins, and Leeza's whole world falls apart. Tired of being the family baby-sitter, Leeza leaves home--as a runaway.

When her car breaks down in New Mexico, Leeza decides to stay there--and falls in love with a handsome, sensitive guy named Joe Carstairs. Soon Leeza's taking care of both Joe and his baby sister, and she finds she's no closer to true independence than she was when she left home. Were things really so bad then, or did Leeza just need to grow up?

Leeza wonders if she should go back and try again--but how can she choose between the boy she now loves and the family she left behind?
