About This Book

Some of my fondest memories in sports have come from games or situations wherethe impossible becomes reality. As I watched, I had this feeling that I hoped anunlikely athlete would become the hero ofthe moment or an underdog team couldpull out an unexpected victory. Some boys and girls only ever have one opportunityto have this feeling, and we all hope that we can be there to share it with them. This book contains the stories of some of these young athletes. I hope you enjoy reading these stories and get the feeling of why it is fun to Root for the Underdog.Sports have been a big part of my life since my childhood days in Levittown, Pa.I enjoyed baseball from my Little League all the way up to high school. I liked somany sports that I was always busy playing something. In high school I letteredin soccer, tennis and basketball. In the summer I pitched softball for several adult teams. At Kutztown University I concentrated on tennis and basketball. Aftergraduating from college I played on a semi-professional basketball team, the Exeter Black Knights, which won the National Amateur Basketball Championshipin 1969. I still enjoy watching sports on television and in person - especially when my grandchildren are participating.
