Shannon McGuire wants to leave her job as an advertising executive at Holary-Gatti because of a man. At a college class reunion, Armand Orosco, a former boyfriend, now the President of Upcate, recruits Shannon to work for his company.

Shannon vows she will never again get involved with any men at her workplace. However, when she looks at photographs of the principal Upcate players in a brochure, she drops a chopstick load of Kung Pao chicken on Trent Thompson's picture.
Trent Thompson attends a company party. He finds himself wildly attracted to Shannon McGuire. He's baffled as to why, since she is not "his type." He is shocked from his fanaticizing about her by Armand announcing that Shannon will be the Head of Sales and Marketing. Will she be his boss? Will she step into his long coveted position of Senior Vice President when Reginald Bates retires?
From her first day on the job, Armand pits Trent and Shannon against each other. Is this a test as to who is most suitable to move up?

A three day trip to a Chicago trade show brings Trent and Shannon closer together. Shannon's resistance is waning. Armand shows up on the last day with an announcement that could permanently douse the flame that has burned between Trent and Shannon.
