This is the second novel in the adventures of Roger Ward. In the prequel the brilliant but desperate American became entangled in the final battle of the Wars of the Roses. He thought surviving that ordeal the climax of his life. He thought wrongly.

Fresh from cheating death in Lord Protector, Roger Ward again faces mortal peril. Ward and his nemesis Margaret Beaufort travel to the Judea of circa 30 AD. There the two attempt to stop the assassination of Jesus of Nazareth. In addition to a deranged Moslem, they must counter Romans, Zealots, the Temple priesthood, and their mutual distrust. Failure will condemn mankind to forever pray toward Mecca and Ward to lose the love of his life.
