About This Book

The cold isn't the only thing that's biting.

During most winters, they try to not freeze. This winter, they're trying to not get eaten alive.

In the town of Taconite Bluff, Minnesota, the daily grind has always been accompanied by the rhythmic, ancient slap of Lake Superior's frigid waves, the breeze from the big water feeling comforting in summer and icy in winter. The salt-of-the-earth community has for centuries relied upon the giant lake, with shipping, fishing, and wild game forming the town's livelihood, sustenance, and forage.

Now, some of the town's residents themselves have been targeted as forage. Evidence near a recent murder site shows clear signs - and plenty of it - of a wolf attack. With additional community members still missing in the forest, it's time to call in help.

Enter tracking specialist and violence devotee Lee Bodkin, who, along with precision shooting partner Gladdis Montrose and attack dog Sheba, arrives in town to clean up the oversized pest problem. It won't be the first time they've dropped the hammer on maneaters.

But what sounded like a standard assignment unfurls into a deadly ordeal, churning with killers both animal and human, and predators more formidable than anything that's ever run in the nearby hills.

All led by a monstrous presence, one that turns out to be voracious, ruthless...and calculating.
