With massive ground disturbances affecting the construction of a new Penal facility on the planet Penithe, the Company have assigned Lieutenant Kara Everett to the Ausustine to investigate. Upon approach, her vessel comes under fire from an unseen force and the ship is forced down onto the frozen world.
