Guilt-ridden after kicking their adult drug-addict son out of the house, she's convinced she committed a horrible act in the past that she's repressed and her son Danny holds the key to remembering it. The only problem is Danny has gone off the grid. Susan acts on a tip that Danny may be living in a homeless encampment. Once there, she decides to stay. After all, Danny lived there twice in the summer, and The Highlands has an open door policy. But she's met with suspicion as the homeless Highlanders maintain an omerta of silence. A virgin camper, Susan struggles to adapt to homeless life on the mountain, and winter is coming. She struggles to adjust and fit in-battling nature, the homeless community, herself, and her draconian views about the homeless. That is, until dual tragedies force her to recall her traumatic past and either come to terms with it or let it destroy her.
