Though she has returned safely to her ship, Dr. Cherijo Torin is not herself. With no memory of her past—or even of the man she loved—she sees herself as a different person and has no desire to remember who she once was. But now Cherijo's talents are needed more than ever....

A mysterious plague is sweeping the planet of the reptilian Hsktskt species, inducing lethal violence within the population. All of their attempts to find a cure have failed, and they demand Cherijo's help. As more and more Hsktskt die, Cherijo realizes the answer may lie in the past. And in order to find a cure, Cherijo will need to delve into memories: the Hsktskt's...and her own.
