About This Book

K-Gr 4-This CD contains an unabridged recording of Richard Walker's The Barefoot Book of Pirates (Barefoot Books, 1998). Listeners are treated to seven pirate stories, each from a different country. From The Captain's Goose, about a man whose greed results in the loss of a dream, to The Ship of Bones, about a pirate ship doomed to never come to port, this is an entrancing collection. Storyteller Richard Hope reads each swashbuckling tale with expression, giving different voices to each character, and using accents when appropriate. Toe-tapping music introduces the collection and provides a brief interlude between each story. Music occasionally appears in the stories as well, when it would enhance them, such as in Music Charms the Pirates from Japan. The sound quality is clean and crisp, and the stories are delightful. Listeners can also listen to the CD on their PC's, using Quicktime 4.1 and a Web browser. You get the same audio, as well as several illustrations per story. The pictures are not essential for story enjoyment, however, and it is somewhat difficult to set up. This stands on its own quite well as a simple audio production. An excellent addition to storytelling collections.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
