About This Book

Paula Cooper Roberts, a former paralegal from Georgetown, SC, and Jim Roberts, her new husband, are determined to start life afresh following a blackmail scandal that falsely implicated her in the death of a Federal judge. Unfortunately, although she was cleared of all charges, the stigma that remains is more than Paula and her family care to deal with in her small Southern town. Shortly after Paula and Jim marry they decide buy a home and move to the city of Charleston, where they hope to escape the shadows of her past.
There, Jim finds the perfect location to move his antique business, while Paula seeks work as a paralegal, only to be turned down by several law firms in town because of fears that her tarnished reputation may somehow harm theirs. Eventually, despite her husband’s misgivings, Paula finds work as a private investigator with Crescent Moon Investigations, owned by Russell Baxter, a PI with a spotless reputation.
Working alongside “Russ,” Paula quickly becomes more than her employer could have ever hoped for in a co-worker, and her persona as a PI is forged. The two sleuths work together solving many cases, most of which are very interesting, though some are downright dangerous. The work is complex and exhilaratingâ€"until the safety of her family is compromised. Now it’s up to Paula to make a decision: Should she continue in her new profession that she enjoys immensely, or should she hang it up for good?
