About This Book

Set in the year 996 A.D the story takes part on the borders of Saxon and Mercian held territories in Britain.
The newly introduced Christian religion is fighting to replace the old gods and convert Pagans to their own faith.

A once peaceful village is thrust to the forefront of the war between the different factions with a traitor taking up arms against his own village and a romantic involvement between the village priestess and a captured North man. Ayla is the village priestess, her brother Kheelan is an aspiring warrior who after his first taste of war is deeply moved by what he experiences. A Viking raid changes the course of the village's normal routine. Ayla tends to Sven, a captured Viking who is wounded in an encounter with the people of the village. He dispels the myth that Vikings are only blood crazed killers. She is in turn taken captive by the traitor Aldrik and held at a monastery run by a mentally unbalanced monk. After an abortive rescue attempt Sven risks all to save her.

Kheelan leads and trains the elite Sea Wolves battling against Mercian warriors and the army of mercenaries recruited by Aldrik.
Aldrik falls foul of the Lords paying for his services once he has done what they wanted him to do. He is tortured and imprisoned. Escaping he sets about destroying the Lords, leaving a bizarre calling card at the scene of each murder.

Kheelan and Ayla endure many hardships over the coming months but eventually find a haven of peace and tranquillity, free from Aldrik and his warrior's attacks....or do they?

A historical saga involving pitched battles, romance and magic. Detailed descriptions of life in a small village in those times coupled with suspense makes Pagan Sunset an interesting read. Aldrik has been described by one reader as "wonderfully evil ". Well researched, historically and militarily authentic.
