Successful Cotswolds thriller writer Melissa Craig, accompanies her friend Iris to the Cévennes, where Iris is running an art course and Melissa is researching the history of the Camisards for her next novel.

Within a week, two bodies are found smashed to death on the rocks below a cliff. The first tragedy was an accident - or was it? As for the second victim, did he fall, was it suicide, or was he pushed?

Melissa is called upon to use her talents to establish what really happened. Working alongside, but independently from the French police, she is confronted with a labyrinth of possibilities.
