Eighth grade isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Somehow, Alice thought eighth grade would be more exciting than it's turning out to be. It's not that things aren't changing all around her -- her older brother Lester's ex-girlfriend is getting married, her boyfriend Patrick is turning into a jerk, a boy is showing attention to Elizabeth, and Pamela is dealing with a painful family crisis. It's just that nothing is happening to Alice. How can she make her life a little less ordinary?

But Alice's attempts to spark up her life always seem to end up more embarrassing than outrageous. Is she destined to be the same old boring Alice forever?
