Thirteen-year-old Kacie Parker loved her Big Sister, veterinarian Suzanne Peterson, and she knew that her dad, Jed, liked Suzanne, too. The three of them got along so well together, it felt as though they were a real family!

But Suzanne was engaged to marry Marty, and Kacie was worried. Because she knew something about Marty that Suzanne didn't know: Marty was dangerous. He was cruel to Suzanne's dog, Lady, when Suzanne wasn't around. Kacie didn't trust him to be good to Suzanne.
