A devious plot by land-hungry speculators threaten the mission land. Tensions escalate when Mac discovers that the land has been illegally sold to a group of settlers due to arrive soon.
As Mac and Jess are caught up in the volatile conflict between the westward moving settlers and the Indians, it becomes evident that there is more to this dispute than meets the eye. Knowing that his people will fight to keep their land, Mac is torn between his desire to protect the mission and the pleas of Jess and Quiet Bear, the Cherokee Council elder, urging him to keep the peace.
