A small woman with a big heart must navigate the treacherous waters within the belly of a WWII Fletcher Class Destroyer as a member of the crew charged with getting her ready for battle. She must battle herself to keep from falling prey to the aging chauvinistic members of her work crew, too set in their ways to let a woman succeed in a man's world.

Set near the end of World War II in Orange, Texas, Beth Cavanaugh works in the belly of a Fletcher Class Destroyer preparing it for its impending tour of duty. Her bounty of confidence and tenacity makes her many enemies as she navigates her way in a testosterone filled world. The only man to come to her defense has fallen for her despite her absent husband, deployed in the Pacific fleet, but he is quickly running out of opportunities to save her from the unscrupulous men who would cause her harm.
