Andre Blue is not your ordinary middle-schooler. He has just enough self-deprecating humor to make his bad days a little less bleak, the perfect medicine to stay above the gloom of life at St. Jude Elementary. After experiencing the highs of making new friends at older brother Duncan’s high school basketball games and the lows of being a target for bullies at St. Jude, Andre is more determined than ever to make his superheroic transformation from zero to hero. Then, after a fateful meeting in which he falls head over heels for Holly Gale at one of Duncan’s games, Andre’s dream of leaving St. Jude for the fantasy of Hanson Memorial High School takes on added appeal.Finally, Andre does switch schools, but all does not go as planned. The change ends up being unexpectedly difficult for him. And when he squares off against his old schoolmates in a pressure-packed basketball game on the campus of St. Jude, he is forced to discover a courage inside he never knew he had. If he and his teammates don’t come through against a miracle-of-miracles comeback by his former teammates, Andre will have to face defeat not only on the court, but also in this, his young life in general. Either despair or euphoria await him, and Andre must fight like he’s never fought before.
