Fashion buyer Prudence Washington's Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless is on the verge of fiasco when none of the volunteers show up. The situation goes from bad to worse after local NFL quarterback Michael "Speed" Hunter and his teammates arrive with their PR director in tow. Speed thinks they're saving the day and doing Prudence a favor, but she doesn't appreciate the media circus and loudly lets him know that in front of a news camera. Her on-air outburst is mistaken by the public for a lover's quarrel! Overnight, Prudence and Speed become the media's newest "it" couple, and fiction becomes fact when they give in to their feelings for each other.

Unfortunately, the extra publicity has also made Prudence the target of a stalker. Speed does everything he can to protect her, but when all the clues begin to point to him, Prudence will have to dodge danger long enough to uncover the truth....
