Derek Cavanaugh is a reporter working for The Globe, a British tabloid. He is given a list of top people being investigated by local social work departments and is asked to look into their activities. Matt Brownlow is a private detective, usually working to catch out cheating spouses. A rich novelist, Sandra Quigley, hires him to find out what happened to her great-grandfather nearly ninety years ago. As they both get closer to the truth the more dangerous things become.
