When the last of her brothers and sisters was happily settled, Janet Hayes realised she must sell the rambling old house where they had all grown up together and find a new way of life.A friend put her in touch with young Dr Allan Playfair who lived in a small Somerset town and Janet gladly accepted the post he was offering as housekeeper.
