Of Wolves and Lesser Creatures

For centuries, wolves have been little understood, falsely vilified, and unjustly persecuted. As modern Man encroaches upon the Arctic and sub-Arctic, he threatens not only the very existence of the wolf but every other creature in this harsh and fragile environment. This collection of short-stories features the Hudson Bay wolf, a beautiful subspecies once abundant in northern Manitoba but now endangered. Through the fictional adventures of Tikaani, Kaisha, Akiak, and other members of this amazing family of wolves, Waldo Montgomery’s stories attempt to bring understanding and acceptance for those that still survive in the wild. Humans also appear in his stories. Some, like Jack Bouvier, hold the wolf in high esteem, while others, like Trapper John, feel no remorse in killing them and selling their pelts. As you read these stories, decide for yourself who are the “lesser creatures.”
