Maxwell paused at the doorway and turned. “Oh? What game’s that, Doc?”

People had been killed, and Agent Jason “Jace” Maxwell was convinced he was the cause. Sure, if he hadn’t stepped in, a vicious murderer would still be roaming at will. But people had been killed only after Maxwell decided to become involved â€" well-meaning people who otherwise would now be going about their everyday lives. Nothing he could do now would ever make that right. Teaming with a local detective â€" the late Lt. Bob Huber â€" the two of them had put together a plan to lure this homicidal sadist back into the scene of a crime. And it had worked to perfection. They got their guy.
