Matty, a young quarrian with a thirst for warriorhood, has made her way to, the great teacher, Riaboning's home. The first part of her journey over, Matty is now faced with another barrier. This mysterious teacher is someone not even her skilled friend, Sadie, can read. If Matty can't understand this strange, old man, how will she ever convince him to teach her ki, the art of warriors on Quarry? Matty's resolve is challenged once again, this time not by the world around her, but by something inside herself. As a threat lingers close in the wilderness, Matty must conquer her own demons before this threat sweeps her off course, or worse yet, the demons inside herself destroy her dream entirely.
