Second in the Jake Stein Mystery/Medical Thriller Series, this book is set in Fort Kent, Maine, on the Canadian Border. An unanticipated death in the small community hospital triggers a visit from Dr. Jacob M. Stein, physician surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Jake uncovers a plot to steal narcotics from the hospital. Other events, including a brutal beating of a nurse and two murders lead Jake to investigate a paramilitary group easily moving back and forth across the Canadian Border while planning a terrorist action. When Jake’s wife, Rhoda, is in danger of being killed during the catastrophic event, Jake, himself a hostage, must find away out, save Rhoda, and prevent the terrorist attack on the town.
