Anders Nordic is a towering, Scandinavian-American hailing from the rugged expanses of Dakota Territory. Known for his solitary nature and unparalleled fighting and shooting skills, Nordic has always struggled to get along with others. As an adult, his preference for solitude has only intensified, leading him to a remote line shack where he lives in blissful isolation. His uncompromising nature draws him into trouble when he ventures into the bustling, violent town of Cimarron in New Mexico Territory for supplies. When he intervenes to save a homeless collie dog, Finn, from a cruel boy-who happens to be the town banker's son-the act of kindness triggers a deadly chain of events. As the town deputy tries to have Nordic arrested, the attempt goes awry. A second, more forceful attempt results in a fatal showdown, with Nordic's .44 ending the deputy's life. This sets off a bloody conflict between Nordic and Finn against the forces of Reginald English and the father of the dead deputy. But despite the escalating violence, Nordic never regrets saving Finn from heartless cruelty. With Finn by his side, he faces the oncoming hordes with steely resolve. Let them come, he thinks.
